Madhya Pradesh, located in the heart of the country, can be visited in any season depending on the reason for the visit. The vast expanse of the state experiences varied temperatures in different regions and different seasons. Therefore, some areas could be suitable for summers, while some for monsoons and winters. For the tourists, however, it is best when visited during the winter (october – march) and monsoon (july – september) season as the temperature remains pleasant through the day (with mostly moderate rainfall during monsoons) allowing them to explore the tourist attractions to their satisfaction. Summers (april – june), however, are not always recommended as the state experience scorching heat, especially in the peak season.
The summer season arrives in April and lasts till June every year. The weather remains scorching in the season with the temperatures ranging between 25°C and 45°C. Visiting most regions of the state is, therefore, not advisable during these months but certain places are quite favourable to the traveller soul. One may wish to explore Pachmarhi Hill Station and Kanha Wildlife Sanctuary. These places experience pleasant temperatures almost the entire day with the maximum temperature touching 35°C in peak summer; a pleasant 10°C less then what most of Madhya Pradesh receives. Having said that, it is the best time to observe flora and fauna at these most visited sites in Madhya Pradesh.
July marks the onset of monsoon season in Madhya Pradesh, and it lasts till September. Moderate to heavy downpours are observed every year. The weather thus stays humid and wet through the season. The minimum temperature the state experience is about 24°C while the maximum temperature is about 37°C. The humidity ranges between 50% and 85%, making the climate sweaty and uncomfortable at times. The rains, however, convert the landscape into a treat to the eyes with lush greenery, dense vegetation, gushing rivers, streams and waterfalls all around. One can head out to Chitrakoot, Mandu, Kanha, the Jungles of Satpura etc. in the monsoons to make the most of their trip.
The winter season in Madhya Pradesh begins in October and lasts until March. The days are pleasant and balmy with the temperature hovering between 20°C and 27°C. The nights get chilly though, and the mercury level drops to as low as 5°C. It is, therefore, the best time to visit Madhya Pradesh to explore cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior which house some of the most important tourist attractions in the state. Exploring the nature reserves/ national parks/ sanctuaries, observing flora and fauna and going on heritage tours, river rafting, hot-air ballooning and shopping are quite preferred in this season.
